Michael Selwyn – State President, NSW/ACT Branch

Michael Selwyn brings over 40 years of experience in international theatrical distribution and marketing across Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australasia.

A UK Chartered Accountant, Michael was appointed MD of United International Pictures, (UIP) Belgium, followed by a move to become MD of UIP Australia in 1993.  He oversaw releases from Paramount, MGM, Universal, United Artists, Dreamworks SKG and Dreamworks Animation as well as independent European and Australian films. In 2006, he became MD and then Vice President, Australia/NZ for Paramount Pictures until his departure in 2016. 

During his time in Australia, Selwyn added many independent titles and landmark Australian films to the studio product. This resulted in UIP and Paramount distributing over 50 local titles with Dating The Enemy, The Sum of Us, The King’s Speech, Samson And Delilah, Balibo, Tomorrow When The War Began and Beneath Hill 60 being some of the highlights alongside studio produced Australian titles including Babe and Ned Kelly

He now consults on film production, distribution and marketing for independent filmmakers.  He is a board member of Film Fantastic, the company behind the Gold Coast Film Festival and the Brisbane International Film Festival.
