The Photo ID Pioneer Membership Card offers admission to a Pioneer and one guest to participating cinemas on any day (including weekends), including 3D movies and glasses.

Prior to the 2019 Covid pandemic and consequent government restrictions, the privilege of using the Cinema Card was extended to our members on a complimentary basis by most cinema chains and many independent cinema operators.

Effective from July 1st, 2021, some cinemas will require a mandatory gold coin contribution for each ticket issued to a Cinema Pioneers ID Card holder.

Event Cinemas and their associated sites will require a $2 contribution on all comp tickets issued at their cinemas to Cinema Pioneers.

Hoyts and their associated sites will require a $2 contribution on all comp tickets issued at their cinemas to Cinema Pioneers.

Village and their associated sites will require a $1 contribution on all comp tickets issued at their cinemas to Cinema Pioneers.

It is our understanding that the monies collected from the mandatory contributions will be distributed amongst the various charities that these exhibitors support at their discretion and may include Motion Picture Industry Benevolent Societies.  No funds will be directly allocated to The Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers.

Reading Cinemas will not be changing their present policy and will continue to provide complimentary tickets as per the present terms and conditions of entry.

The Independent Cinema Association (ICA) is not able to advise an all-encompassing policy for their members. As such, some cinemas may decide to implement a gold coin contribution and others may not.  The contributions raised will support various charities including the Mark Sarfaty Cinema and Performing Arts Benevolent Fund and some of the funds raised may be allocated in part to support the work of The Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers.

Nonaligned independent Cinemas may decide to implement a gold coin contribution and others may not.

If you are unsure of a Cinema’s policy, we strongly suggest you check with individual cinemas prior to your visit.

In any case, Please note:- Exceptions are as follows:- the Photo ID Pioneer Card is not able to be used on:

  • Saturday evenings after 6:00pm;
  • on Public Holidays,
  • Premium Seating, and
  • Special Programmes (e.g. Special Previews and Premieres, Festivals and those programmes signifying “No Free List” Tickets).

In addition, HOYTS has advised that exceptions also extend to HOYTS LUX, Xtremescreen and HOYTS IMAX.

To the best of our knowledge, the following Independent Cinemas agreed to honour our Membership Card, but again this may no longer be the case:-

The President and executive Committee are grateful for the privileges extended to our members, and thank all cinemas involved.
